Since January of 2002, in-the-know twin citizens have known that Wednesday nights mean only one thing: Punk Karaoke. What could be better than making the hike to hipster-laden northeast Minneapolis, drinking cheap liquor in a tiny Mexican Bar, and singing karaoke to the punk rock classics they grew up on?
There’s only one way that it could be better—and that would be if it were on Friday. Well, the Punk Karaoke machine has decided to make the switch. If UPN and Fox could do it, so could we. And that’s just what we’re doing. Beginning Friday, January 31st, Punk Karaoke will be moving to Friday nights.
All the good stuff will be the same: cheap drinks, 300+ songs to choose from, and the chance to win the fabled Punk Karaoke Trophy of Distinction at the end of the night, but nobody will be able to wuss out by saying “I have to work in the morning.”
And of course, this is the Karaoke honored with the title of “Best Karaoke in the Twin Cities” by both the eternally hip City Pages (looksie!) and the upmarket glossy Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine (looksie!).
But rest on our laurels? Not us. We’ll be kicking off our new Friday time-slot with our legendary Battle of the Champions. Six months ago, we invited all past trophy-winning-karaoke-ers to come back and vie for the title of Champion of Champions. Now, we’re doing it again. Each past winner gets to throw their talent on the yardstick and see how they measure up to the rest. And thereafter, every Friday night will mean but one thing: Punk Karaoke.
